School Year Schedule Expectations:
I want to begin by saying that I completely agree and understand that school and academic activities need to come before work, and I do not expect and will never require you to put work before any academic activities!
However, as you have all have elected to work here, I also have to make sure that we have the right staffing and shift coverage so that the cafe operates properly with the staff we have.
So, as previously discussed, in order to maintain a position as an active employee on our team, you are required to fulfill the following minimum requirements:
1. Be generally willing, able and available to work at least 12 hours per week.
2. Be generally willing, able and available to work an equal share of Friday and Saturday closing shifts (in September, there are 5 Fridays, so with our current staffing, this would mean that you work 2 Friday and are off 3 Fridays, which is much more reasonable then the same someone working all 5! (unless of course someone wants to.))
3. Be generally willing, able and available to work 2 of the 3 weekend days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
4. Be able to manage your personal schedule and request the necessary time off at least 2 weeks in advance. Additionally, be able to manage your willingness to help others, cover shifts, and be flexible when able and available, and in relation to the volume of your time off needs.
5. Reflect your schedule availability accurately and honestly, both generally, and when requesting time off.
6. Respond to emails/texts promptly and throughly, particularly when they are about scheduling!

P.S: My goal is NOT to eliminate anyone from our team, and I understand that there will be weeks when exceptions to the above will occur. The goal here is to make a scheduling framework that is fair to all employees and that allows the cafe to operate properly, and additionally to simplify and improve scheduling for all involved.
