QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:

Q: I want to sit outside, why are your outside tables not out?
A: We bring our tables in during certain seasons for two main reasons, The first being that as residents of Maynard are likely familiar the town limits street parking between certain dates (12/1-3/15) and this carries over to items on town owned sidewalks, such as our tables.  So at minimum our outdoor tables will be indoors during these dates, beyond those dates, we will make a judgement call based on the general weather trend.  In order for the town to properly operate the sidewalk plow and provide proper snow removal to the downtown sidewalks  our tables cannot be on the sidewalks, so we generally remove them at the earliest threat of snow, and leave them indoors until that threat has passed entirely. In addition, the Town of Maynard now requires an official permit for outdoor seating, and this process often takes time.

Q: Who owns Serendipity Cafe?
A:  As of our re-opening on July 15, 2014, Serendipity Cafe is owned by previous cafe managers, Johnny & Laura Hobson of Hobson's Homemade Bakers.
Serendipity Cafe was previously owned by local artist and businessman Bruce Davidson. Bruce owned Serendipity from November 2013 to June of 2014 when he made a business and personal decision to focus on other pursuits. We'd proud to call Bruce a continued personal friend and friend to the cafe.
Serendipity Cafe is a different business than Cafe La Mattina was. Bruce's mission included maintaining some community favorites from Samir's menu, such as the crepes, and the Avocado Sandwich and Laura and Johnny continue to honor Samir's legacy as well by offering crepes on Sundays,  but we have our own business as well and made changes to showcase this.

Q:  Under the new ownership, will you still be having the Group or Club I was previously attending, or was previously interested in attending ?
A: We'd like to hear from you about your interest. Many of our clubs were actually being hosted by individuals independent of the cafe who have not been in touch with us.  If you know us, you know that we are, and always have been incredibly community focused in our personal & business lives and as such, we are very interested in fostering a future of groups, clubs & community meetings at the cafe and we would very much like to work with interested parties. Please contact Laura at: LauraHSerendipity@gmail.com

Q: When are the Serendipity Crepes offered?
A:  Serendipity Crepes are offered exclusively on Sundays. We are open for business between 8a-2p on Sundays.  Making crepes a Sunday exclusive item was a business decision made by Laura and Johnny when they assumed ownership. While we understand that some folks will continue to be upset by this, this decision has proven itself across the board. We're pleased to continue to be able to offer crepes on Sunday as a special item for brunch and with either Spencer or Laura being dedicated to the crepe preparation to ensure you are getting quality 100% of the time.

Q: I have food allergies, food sensitivities, or a dietary preference. What can you offer me?
A: Please don't hesitate to contact us directly if you'd like to discuss this personally prior to your visit. Laura has several allergies herself and is always happy to help! LauraHSerendipity@gmail.com

Q: Why have you asked me to, or told my child to stop playing in your doorways, windows, window wells, or running in the cafe?
A: We mean no offense to any parents, and are very conscious of not wanting to overstep our bounds. The Serendipity Cafe Hobson's Homemade staff and management have no other concern or motive than the safety of you and your family.  We are very attentive to the safety of our patrons within our establishment and we simply may see a hazard you may not be aware of.  We try very hard to make our cafe a safe place but with an open kitchen and a very old building some things are unavoidable. We simply ask that for your child's safety and that of our staff who often move about the cafe carrying hot food & beverages you do not allow any child under your care to play in the window wells, with the doors or within the doorways, or run in any area of the cafe. An alarming number of small children have been playing with the glass doors banging or hitting them, to the point that we find it necessary to intervene. In addition, you may wish to accompany smaller children, particularly below reading age to the restroom as there are two other doors down the hallway and one leads to our kitchen, the other to the basement. Our staff needs easy access to these areas, so it is not possible to keep them locked, but we also don't want an accident to occur with a small children wandering into the basement or kitchen area.
