* COVID-OPERATIONS FAQ *
We're SO appreciative of our customers for working alongside us to comply with all of the guidelines that are required of businesses to be open during the COVID-19 pandemic. For those few who have questions either about the guidelines, or cafe operations in response to them, we've created a Q&A for you below:
(and as always you can reach us directly at any time via email)

Q: Why do I have to (insert pandemic related guideline you're seeking further info on here) to come to/order from the cafe?/ Why are you doing (insert pandemic related guideline you're curious about here)?:
A: All of the guidelines we have in place have come directly from the general business and restaurant specific guidelines issued by the state and local government and board of health. They are not our rules, asks, or restrictions, but they are the ones we're required to follow to be open as is every other restaurant and we thank you sincerely for your cooperation. You are welcome to view the information yourself here: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/safety-standards-and-checklist-restaurants and here: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/reopening-massachusetts#general-business-guidance-. If you're just generally interested everything related to doing business in Massachusetts right now, regardless of the industry, can be found here: www.mass.gov/reopening.

Q: Do you have outdoor seating available?
A: Yes! At this time our outdoor seating permit allows for us to have 3 tables with up to 3 people each. While we're open for take-out, these tables are available for you to use on a first come, first served basis if you chose. Please take a moment to review the outdoor seating policies prior to dining with us. UPDATE: As of 12/1/21 Outdoor dining has ended for the season for those downtown restaurants who utilize municipal space (such as the sidewalk). We'll see you next season.

Q: Do you have indoor seating available?
A: Based on feedback from customers and our team, as well as the distancing guidelines for indoor seating (which at this time would allow us only 2 tables) we have not yet reopened our indoor dining. We're continually evaluating this as the situation evolves and welcome you to share any feedback with us via email. UPDATE: In an effort to best support the health of our team, we will not be resuming indoor dinning until all members of our team who wish to be are fully vaccinated. We anticipate that this will occur in late May - mid June. We thank you for joining us in this sacrifice which values the health of our team and community above anything else, and we look forward to welcoming your back inside when the time comes.

Q: Where are the crepes?
A: Short answer: They WILL be back when things get closer to normal. Further Details: There are several reasons that we, along with our longterm crepe chef Spencer, initially chose to wait to bring the crepes back. While we know that folks do sometimes choose to order them for take-out they are best served and eaten in house, and we are not willing to sacrifice the quality. Additionally, because of the timing and specialized nature of making the crepes, our entire team feels that it would create a situation contrary to the social distancing and quick service that is required during this time. Although Spencer has decided to move on, once things get closer to normal we do still hope to bring our Sunday Brunch Music Series along with our indoor dining and Serendipity Sunday Crepes back to the menu and to you. In the meantime, we are offering a seasonal selection of Sunday Brunch Specials in addition to our normal breakfast menu for you on Sundays, and we hope you enjoy these new menu items!

Q: Why am I being asked to wear a mask or face-covering?
A: We are asking you to wear a mask for the same reasons we are wearing masks: 1. To protect ourselves and others and 2. Because it is currently REQUIRED in Massachusetts. For those frustrated by trying to interact while wearing a mask, please know we empathize! We've found that it helps to speak and breathe normally, and to try not to think of the mask as something that is restricting you and it becomes a lot easier to deal with...Here behind the counter at Serendipity, we've all had to get used to wearing them in a very hot environment for long periods of time and that's the best advice we can give. Please do refrain from removing your mask, or stepping aside from the plexiglass barrier to order, as that undermines the safety procedures we have in place for our safety and yours.
